Address Aging Facilities and Equipment

District-wide Facility Updates

Roof Replacements: Prop A includes complete roof replacements at all four campuses (high school, middle school, intermediate school, primary school). The roofs across Tuloso-Midway ISD are approximately 20 years old and are nearing or have exceeded their useful lifespan.

High School Building Modernization

Tuloso-Midway High School was built in 1984, 42 years ago. It has been 12 years since the campus has seen renovations. Bond funds would allow the district to modernize the campus to accommodate new learning environments.

District-wide Furniture Updates

Prop A includes updated furniture for classrooms and offices across the district. Some of the current furniture is reaching the end of its useful life.

The district has purchased furniture for one to two classrooms each year. The bond would enable the district to replace classroom furniture more quickly by funding a larger purchase.

Tuloso-Midway Middle School currently lacks seating to accommodate all students.

Special Education Sensory Rooms

Prop A includes updates to the Special Education (SPED) sensory rooms at all campuses.

The current SPED classrooms have not been updated and lack the modern equipment necessary for effective sensory support.

High School Ag Facility Updates

An icon of a building with the text 'Current ag facility 14 years old'Prop A includes upgrades to the high school ag facility. The bond would allow the district to add new watering systems tailored to specific species, cattle pens located outside the facility, and additional pens for rabbit and poultry projects.

The proposed changes will allow for more students to participate in showing by expanding the limited capacity for rabbit and poultry projects.

The current ag barn was built in 2012, 14 years ago, and lacks modern equipment and space for students to utilize.

Approximately 100 students use the ag barn to house their animals. The classroom space is used for FFA activities and other CTE class instruction.

New High School Band Hall

Today, there are 182 students, putting the program near capacity for the space. Due to increased participation, the band program does not have enough instrument and uniform storage in the band hall.

The Tuloso-Midway High School Band and Choir programs share the same spaces. Adding a new band hall would allow both programs to have their own rehearsal spaces.

New High School Fieldhouse

Graphic of fieldhouse building with text 'Fieldhouse built in 1986'Prop A includes a new, 28,000-square-foot fieldhouse that will house boys and girls students & coaches locker rooms, a weight room, coaches offices, restrooms, classrooms, and training room.

The current fieldhouse was built in 1986, more than 40 years ago. TMISD has not made significant renovations to the facility in 5 years.

With the growing participation in athletics, the fieldhouse lacks the locker space to allow each student athlete to have their own locker. The golf program has expanded to 14 members, and they currently do not have a locker room. Instead, they must dress for practice in a restroom.

The new facility will serve boys and girls athletics and PE classes.

Technology Updates

Tuloso-Midway ISD has not invested in infrastructure and classroom technology in 5 years.

Prop A would replace aging, end-of-life equipment and software district-wide. For example, wireless access points, servers, new network cabling, UPS (uninterrupted power supply), phone system, and equipment to improve network efficiency.

Classroom and instructional technology will include interactive flat panels, document cameras, and software, improving service, security, efficiency, and response time for staff and students.

Every classroom across the district will be upgraded as a result of this project.

New High School Multipurpose Pavilion

An illustration of a pavilion with grass in front with text 'New Multipurpose Pavilion'Prop A includes a new, 79,000-square-foot multipurpose pavilion that will cover a turfed practice field.

The pavilion would help protect students from the Texas heat and inclement weather while participating in outdoor activities. It could also allow multiple groups to practice under shelter from the elements at any given time.

The proposed addition will allow for Physical Education classes to utilize the space for instruction, expanding the activity opportunities and reducing scheduling conflicts.

Middle School Outdoor Extended Learning Playscape

Graphic featuring a playground with the words 'New Playscape'.Prop A includes an outdoor extended learning playscape with a climbing obstacle course, running track, basketball court, pavement game area, play wall, turf, seating, tables, and shading to cover all areas.

Once the new Tuloso-Midway Junior High is built, funded by the 2023 Bond, the current middle school will be home to 5th and 6th grade students.

This addition will provide a learning space for teachers to utilize as well as a place for 5th and 6th grade students to play during recess.

New Buses

Graphic of school bus with text '17 New Buses'Prop A includes 17 new buses.

This addition will allow Tuloso-Midway ISD to comply with state laws requiring all buses to have seat belts by 2029. Currently, 17 buses are more than 14 years old and must be replaced to meet the state laws.

The average age of school buses in TMISD is 13 years. The useful life of a bus is 7-10 years, and 50% of the current fleet is approaching or past its useful life.

Currently, some of TMISD buses have poorly functioning air conditioning or no air conditioning and limited or no seat belts. New buses have safety features like seat belts, interior/exterior cameras, and air conditioning.
